Just a few cherished summer moments from our 2023 season, in the words of our audience members and students.
Two of my highlights from this year's Festival were my performance with my chamber group in session two and playing alongside Joyce Yang for the Tchaikovsky piano concerto. I loved my chamber group dearly and I have never had more fun in a performance ever. Joyce was incredibly inspiring and I am so humbled and honored that I was able to play in the Festival orchestra with her. The memories I have made at this Festival are among my most treasured. It was a beautiful experience."
The Aizuri Quartet performance — stupendous ensemble and technique. One of the best chamber concerts I've heard in recent years."
The sense of camaraderie and support among all participants is inspiring. I love that Phil and Dave always highlight this as a specific objective for the summer's work, too. The hearty cheers, multiple curtain calls, and standing ovations brighten the hearts of performers and audiences alike."
My faculty member was one of the most influential and inspiring teachers I have ever had the privilege of learning from. She never failed to push my limits while also giving me confidence in my own abilities."
Bringing my 4.5-year-old son to the Family Day concert. Just the other day he asked if we could go listen to the classical music again."
When I was in studio class, I heard the amazing playing of my peers and how immersed people were in their music. I felt so inspired to grow my technical skill to further be able to express my music."
I loved the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante played by Robin Scott and Dimitri Murrath. Hearing them play with the Festival Orchestra was glorious but so was seeing them play together! There was sheer poetry in the way they moved and responded and interacted. Wonderful players as individuals and humble musicians in how they combined their musical talents in duo."
JACK Quartet! My first experience seeing Morton Feldman music performed live. Thank you for programming more modern composers and performers."
The end of the first session was incredibly bitter sweet. The Souvenir de Florence rocked my world and I had so much fun playing the Mozart, but I knew I would soon say goodbye to so many people that had become such close friends."
