Keeping up with Festival Alumni
Serena Canin, William Fedkenheuer, and Astrid Schween

Please join us for a Zoom conversation between Artistic Directors David Ying and Phillip Ying and Festival alumni from three internationally renowned string quartets. The artists will reflect on their experiences as students at the Festival and discuss their musical journeys since. We hope to see you online for this special conversation followed by audience Q&A.

About the Artists

Violinist Serena Canin ’81, ’83, ’84, ’85 is an accomplished chamber musician who has performed throughout the United States and internationally. Canin performs regularly at the Yale School of Music and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival/Yale Summer School of Music as a member of the Brentano String Quartet, presenting creative programs of works from across history and standards of the classical canon. She also coaches graduate chamber music ensembles. Read More

Violinist William Fedkenheuer ’91 is widely respected as a performer, teacher, and consultant. Uniquely drawing on over two decades of experience onstage and off as a member of three internationally renowned string quartets (The Miró, Fry Street, Borromeo Quartets), he dedicates his life to serving others through performance, teaching, personal and professional development. William is on faculty at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music and oversees its Young Professional String Quartet Program. Cellist Astrid Schween ’84 enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber artist, and teacher. Since joining the Juilliard String Quartet in 2016, she has appeared at many of the world’s great concert halls including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Vienna Musikverein, and Berlin Konzerthaus, among others. At the age of 16, Astrid Schween made her concerto debut with the New York Philharmonic and conductor, Zubin Mehta, who also arranged a special invitation for her to study privately in London with the legendary cellist, Jacqueline DuPre.
