Sophie Steger is a horn player based in Boston, Massachusetts. She is an active freelancer in New England and beyond, playing professionally with orchestras including the Boston Pops Orchestra, New World Symphony, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, Phoenix Orchestra, Boston Chamber Orchestra, Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Worcester Symphony Orchestra, and more. She also served as Principal Horn of the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra from 2022-2023.
Sophie graduated from New England Conservatory with her Master’s of Music in Horn Performance in the spring of 2023, where she studied with Rachel Childers and Michael Winter. In the summers of 2022 and 2023, she attended the Colorado College Summer Music Festival in Colorado Springs as a Horn Fellow. Prior to her time in Boston, she completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, studying with Gail Williams and Jonathan Boen.
During her time at New England Conservatory, Sophie received the Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowships for both her woodwind quintet and horn quartet. These Fellowships sponsored her chamber groups to design their own programs and perform outreach concerts in the greater Boston area.
