Hayoung Moon, 22, is a Korean-American cellist completing his Master’s of Music degree at the New England Conservatory in Cello Performance, under the tutelage of Paul Katz. Previously, Hayoung completed his B.A. degree in Economics from Harvard University, as part of the Harvard-NEC dual degree program.
Hayoung has given solo performances in renown halls including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. He has also performed as a soloist with various orchestras, including the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Waco Symphony Orchestra, Houston Civic Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Hayoung is the recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, selected as one of 20 exceptional musicians to receive a scholarship. In addition, Hayoung has been featured multiple times on NPR’s From the Top, performing the Haydn “Trout” Quintet with pianist Simone Dinnerstein and other pieces. Hayoung has participated in masterclasses with leading musicians including Hans Jorgen Jensen, Johannes Moser, and Blaise Dejardin.
In his spare time, Hayoung’s non-musical interests include reading, poker, sports analytics, fostering puppies, and corporate reorganizations.
