Singaporean pianist Pualina Lim Mei En is a musician with a huge passion in collaborative music making. As an avid collaborative pianist, she has diverse experience in duo, chamber, orchestral, and choral settings and has played in lessons and masterclasses by Jonathan Feldman, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Soovin Kim, and Zlatomir Fung. In 2022, Pualina was invited to be Collaborative Piano Fellow for the very first edition of Chamber Music Northwest’s Young Artist Institute (Oregon, USA). She is currently highly sought after as collaborative pianist at the New England Conservatory (NEC) and NEC Preparatory School. As piano soloist, Pualina has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as a President’s Young Performer, as well as the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra.
Pualina discovered her love for collaborative piano during her undergraduate studies in Piano Performance at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST). She graduated with Highest Distinction and was awarded the National University of Singapore Society Medal for Outstanding Achievement in recognition of her excellence. In 2019, Pualina won 3rd Prize of the National Piano and Violin Competition (Senior Category). She was also awarded both 2nd Prize as well as Best Accompanist Award in the YST Concerto Competition 2020 (Piano Category). She then emerged as a Top 3 Prize Winner across all instrument categories and performed as soloist with the YST Conservatory Orchestra. Pualina was extremely active in collaborating with her peers throughout her studies. As part of WAN Trio, the clarinet-violin-piano trio represented YST at the chamber music festival Musical Chairs 2020, held in McGill University (Canada). Pualina would like to thank her teachers who have inspired and shaped her growth during her time at YST – Albert Tiu, Bernard Lanskey, Lim Yan, and Thomas Hecht among others. In recent years, Pualina has played for Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Intensive Community Program and NEC’s Community Performances & Partnerships Fellowship program.
Currently, Pualina is finishing her Master of Music degree in Collaborative Piano with Pei-Shan Lee and Cameron Stowe at New England Conservatory of Music under full scholarship and will continue her studies in the Graduate Diploma program next fall. She is also recipient of the Francis W. Hatch, Sr. Presidential Scholarship and is very kindly supported and sponsored by Singapore’s Trailblazer Foundation.
Beyond piano, Pualina is a composer and an award-winning electone player. She has represented Singapore by performing her compositions at the Asia Pacific Electone Festival in Singapore (2017), Indonesia (2018), and the prestigious Yamaha Electone Concours in Japan (2018). In her free time (or when she finally has time), she enjoys immersing herself in nature and loves good sushi.
